If you stopped a response right after sending it, before Agent had started writing back, that turn could disappear from the chat. Now it stays where you left it, and it's still there when you reopen the chat later.

Know the moment your work is ready

Agent can now let you know when a task finishes while you're off doing something else, so you don't have to keep checking back. If notifications are off, you'll see a gentle nudge in the sidebar and a quick note in your chat when something wraps up while you were away. Turning them on takes one click and drops you straight into the right spot in System Settings, and you'll get a little confirmation once they're live.

A plan that fits how you work

You can now go weekly, not just monthly, so you can pick the pace that matches how much you use Agent. Your usage meter, warnings, and limit messages all follow whichever plan you're on, so it's always clear where you stand and when you're getting close.

Merlin now keeps you posted while it works and makes it easier to access files across your Mac.

Know when your work is ready

Switch to another app while Merlin is working, and you'll get a Mac notification when it finishes. Click the notification to jump straight back to the completed chat.

Fewer file access interruptions

You can now grant Full Disk Access from the sidebar or Settings, letting Merlin work with files in Desktop, Downloads, Documents, and other protected folders without repeated prompts. Merlin recognizes the change when you return from System Settings, so you can get straight back to work.

Settings that are easier to scan

General settings now group updates, startup preferences, and permissions more clearly. Opening Settings also takes you straight to General, putting the controls you're most likely to need within easy reach.

See at a glance when your connection drops

If your internet goes down or gets sluggish mid-chat, Agent now shows a small pill to let you know what's going on. No more staring at a stuck reply wondering whether it's you, your wifi, or the app. It stays out of your way and never blocks what you're doing.

Back online without lifting a finger

Agent keeps checking in the background and reconnects on its own the moment your connection recovers. In a hurry? There's a retry button right on the pill.

Keep typing while Agent works

You no longer have to wait for Agent to finish before lining up your next thought. Type and send follow-up messages while it's still replying — they stack up neatly above the composer and send themselves in order once the current turn wraps. You can reorder them, edit one back into the composer, or remove any you've changed your mind about.

Long conversations stay intact

Extended chats used to occasionally lose earlier context when Agent tidied things up behind the scenes, so reopening a conversation could feel like it had forgotten part of the thread. That's fixed. Agent now keeps your recent turns exactly as they were, so you can pick a long conversation back up right where you left off.

Steadier handling of files and folders

Opening a file Agent can't read — like an image or other binary — now shows a clean "unsupported file" note instead of dumping unreadable content into the chat. And new chats no longer quietly attach a recent folder you didn't pick, so a conversation stays project-free until you choose one.

Paste long text as an attachment

Pasting a large block of text into the composer no longer floods the input. Long pastes are automatically converted into a file attachment — the agent reads it like any other file. Short pastes still go inline as before. A live character counter keeps you aware of input length.

See exactly what the agent did

Tool calls in the thinking rail are now expandable. Click any row — like "Read package.json" or "Ran ls" — to see the full arguments and complete result right inline, with copy buttons and scrollable output. No more guessing what happened behind a one-line summary.

Video generation with a consent step

When the agent wants to generate a video, you now review the request before any credits are spent. An inline card shows the prompt, duration, aspect ratio, and audio toggle — all editable, with a live credit estimate. Generate, cancel, or let the timer auto-deny.

Sandbox by default

New chats start in their own sandbox instead of silently reusing the last project. You opt into a project deliberately. Recent folders are now manageable too — hover to remove a stale entry or reveal it in Finder.

Opening a conversation now eases in. A refined placeholder loads first, then your messages fade gently into place instead of popping in. The message box stays put the whole time, so nothing jumps around.

Steadier chain of thought

While the agent works, its reasoning no longer flickers or briefly flashes up as the answer. Thinking stays in its own section, and the answer lands cleanly once it's ready.

Fewer interrupted replies

Fixed a rare issue where a response could stop with an error partway through. Replies now stream all the way to the end.

Work on more than one thing at a time

Agent can now run multiple chats side by side, each working independently in its own project. Kick off a task in one chat, switch to another, and let them both keep going in the background. A small status dot on each chat in the sidebar shows you what's running, what needs your approval, and what just finished while you were away.

How many chats run at the same time depends on your plan — Go runs up to 3, Pro up to 5, and Max up to 7. Opening and creating chats is always unlimited; the limit only applies to chats actively working at the same moment.

A more capable composer

The new "+" menu in the message box puts everything in one place: attach files, connect your apps, and pull in agent skills. Connected apps and skills now appear as clean inline chips as you type, and you can use @ to mention an app or / to reach for a skill — each with its own quick-search menu.

No more stuck conversations

Fixed a rare issue where a chat could get permanently wedged and fail on every message. Those conversations now recover on their own and pick right back up.

Reliable chat titles

Chats now get a clear, automatically generated title every time, so your history stays easy to scan.

Cleaner stop & error notices

When you stop a response or something goes wrong mid-reply, you'll now see a tidy one-line notice right in the chat instead of a block of raw text.

Stopping no longer loses your place

If you hit stop while Agent was in the middle of working, or your connection hiccuped mid-reply, part of the conversation could go missing or get left in a state where you couldn't pick it back up. Now the interrupted moment is saved cleanly and marked right in the chat, so you can carry on from exactly where you stopped without anything falling through the cracks.

No more surprise logouts

If you left Agent open for a while or came back after your Mac went to sleep, your next message could fail and ask you to log out and back in. That's fixed. Agent now quietly sorts out your session in the background, so you can pick up right where you left off.

Small visual touch-ups

Tidied up the spacing at the top of the sidebar and softened the corners on the app icon, so things line up just a bit more neatly.

Merlin Agent is now a native Mac app. It's a real AI agent that reads and writes files, runs commands, searches the web, makes images and video, and plugs into your tools, all from a window that lives on your desktop instead of a browser tab. This is our first stable release, and we're really happy with it.

Pick the right model for the job

Switch between Merlin Lite, Pro, and Max whenever you want, even in the middle of a chat. Use Lite when you're in a hurry, Max when you want the deepest thinking, and Pro for everything in between. You never have to start over.

An agent that does the work

Agent ships with a full set of built-in tools. It runs shell commands, reads and edits files, searches across a project, browses the web and cites its sources, and creates or edits images and video. It strings these together to actually finish the job, not just talk about it.

You stay in control

Anything risky, like running a command or writing a file, stops and asks you first. Approve it once, or set simple rules so commands and folders you trust just go through next time. Every tool call and its full output is right there in the chat.

Reasoning you can follow

Watch Agent think. A live view shows its reasoning and what it's doing as it works, then folds away once it's landed on an answer, so you get the detail when you want it and a clean chat when you don't.

Edit, branch, and regenerate

Change your mind about a message you sent, edit it, and get a fresh reply. Or branch a turn to try a different direction and flip between the versions. Your whole history is saved on your machine and waiting for you next time.

Bring your files and your screen

Drop in up to ten files at once, like PDFs, documents, spreadsheets, slides, and code, or grab a screenshot and hand it straight to Agent. Files it makes or shares open in a side panel with syntax highlighting and proper markdown.

Connect your tools with MCP

Find, connect, and run tools from other toolkits over the Model Context Protocol, and pull up skills you can fire off right from the chat. Agent searches across the tools you've connected and uses them as part of getting things done.

Always within reach

A floating panel and a menu bar tray keep Agent one shortcut away from anywhere on your Mac. Jump to a new chat or a recent one, flip on open at login, and lean on keyboard shortcuts to move fast.

A squircle app icon, a tidy installer, light and dark themes to match your mood, and a quick walkthrough the first time you open it. The app updates itself quietly in the background and only nudges you when it's ready to restart.
